Volunteer Opportunities at Benholm Mill

Volunteer Opportunities at Benholm Mill

The Benholm Mill site is continually being developed as a country park visitor centre and there are opportunities here for everyone, young and old to become involved.

Mill of Benholm is a working waterwheel mill museum near Johnshaven that was renovated in 1994. Since then the Mill of Benholm Trust Charity has been providing community support for adult learners.

The paid staff and supervisors, all part time, are supported by a small band of dedicated volunteers who do wondrous things with limited resources.

There is an open invitation from the Trust for people from the local communities to become involved in the Mill of Benholm Project as a 'Member' or Volunteer or perhaps even to join the team of Trust Directors.

The Members meet throughout the year to discuss the shaping of developments on the site but annually they also meet to elect some from their midst to join the Board of Directors.

The Mill of Benholm Project oversees the working watermill museum, tearoom, shop, gardens, plant centre and public park all of which provides work experience and training for people with extra support needs who work Monday to Fridays. The trainees work at Mill of Benholm until such time as they find employment  elsewhere.

Volunteers are often able to develop innovative income generation schemes which provide our trainees with more diverse training and work experience.

The trust works to establish reliable income streams to build the capital required for sustainability.

Each and every one of our volunteers significantly supports an element of this project which would not have been possible without them.
